Note when preparing luggage to go to Japan
Japan is one of the ideal destinations for many Vietnamese workers and students in recent years. And to have a complete trip, we need to keep a few things in mind when preparing our luggage for departure to Japan!
1. Regulations on hand baggage and checked baggage to Japan
Normally, when carrying luggage from Vietnam to Japan, it will be as follows:
● Hand/cabin luggage: from 7kg ~ 10kg / 1 suitcase
● Checked luggage: from 20kg ~ 30 kg / 1 suitcase (maximum 40kg for 2 suitcases)
Depending on the ticket type and airline, the employee can increase or decrease the amount of weight .
One more note is that passengers should not pack too bulky luggage, for the largest suitcase should only use 7-inches.

2. Notice of ban on bringing food into Japan
Since the beginning of February 2020, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan has officially issued a notice to compel passengers from abroad to enter Japan without carrying them. According to fresh food, food or vegetables will have to:
Submit a certificate of the product has passed the quarantine
● Comply with the quarantine at the airport
If the quarantine certificate cannot be presented, it will have to be destroyed food, and be fined 1 million Japanese yen or imprisoned for 3 years (depending on the severity).
3. Prohibited items to bring into Japan
Prohibited baggage on board
Includes all items that have been prohibited from being brought on board the aircraft so far:
● Items of a lethal nature: landmines, firecrackers and other items explosives
● Flammable - toxic: gasoline, oil, paint, poison
● Toxic, corrosive chemicals, etc.
● Objects with alarms
● Electronics with too large capacity batteries (depending on each regulation) airlines)
● Prohibited items to be transported by country.
Prohibited hand luggage
In addition to the above items, the items that are prohibited from hand-carry are:
● Types of rudimentary weapons: scissors, swords, knives,...
● Lithium or Lithium Ion batteries with large capacity from 100WH to 160WH
In hand luggage passengers can bring liquids and medicines, but need to make sure:
● Medicines with labels or medical certificate accompanying the medicine (school) (suitable for carrying a lot)
● The total capacity of the solution to be carried should not exceed 1 liter and more than 100ml / 1 bottle – closed tightly required
Checked baggage is prohibited
Including the following items:
● Fragile items: glass, ceramic, crockery, etc.
● Items with strong odors: durian,,….
● Electronic items: cameras, laptops, tablets, phones, spare batteries...
● Valuables: jewelry, important papers, etc.
● Prohibited items by country
Passengers can bring liquid up to 3 liters / 3kg however must be wrapped carefully to avoid breakage / spillage.

4. Luggage to go to Japan should prepare what?
For Vietnamese workers, when they go to Japan to work abroad for the first time, they are often quite surprised and do not know what to prepare. AMDI MANPOWER would like to suggest that you prepare the following items:
1. Important documents: Passport and flight ticket (depending on the union, it will require additional ID card + notarized copy of household registration)
2. Personal belongings : Clothes, beanie, scarf and 1-2 pairs of shoes, a few pills to prevent fever and a few packs of shampoo + shower gel
3. Photo card: 2×3 and 3×4 sizes are recommended each type 4 latest portrait photos
4. Food: Noodles, confectionery, dry food
5. Japanese money: should bring 5-10 man yen
Note: The first month of workers in Japan will definitely receive a subsidized salary, depending on the company, it will be from 2-7 man Yen, so the intern can have some peace of mind if do not prepare a lot of money.
For Japanese international students, AMDI MANPOWER recommends bringing a minimum of 10-15 Man Yen because the first 1-3 months you may not find a job.

5. Frequently asked questions when preparing luggage to Japan
Here are the questions received and summarized by AMDI MANPOWER, all of which will be very helpful to those who are and are going to Japan.
5.1. Is it possible to bring fish sauce to Japan?
You are still allowed to bring fish sauce / soy sauce / chili sauce,... However, you must wrap it tightly with food wrap and keep it in your checked baggage.
5.2. Can cigarettes be brought to Japan?
Tobacco is not currently a banned product, but you should not bring too much to avoid being suspected by customs as tax evasion. Cigarettes in Japan cost from 300 yen per pack
5.3. Is it possible to bring seeds/fruits to Japan?
From March 1, 2020, Japan has officially banned all fresh foods, vegetables and fruits from entering Japan without being quarantined. So you should not bring these. Seeds for planting trees and vegetables in Japan are also very cheap and diverse as in Vietnam.
5.4. Is it possible to bring rice to Japan?
Cotton balls and shrimp paste are currently on the list of processed foods that cannot be brought into Japan
5.5. Can dried fish be brought to Japan?
Dried fish is like a cotton ball, so it is not allowed to be brought into Japan.
