WHAT IS OTIT ORGANIZATION? INCREDIBLE BENEFITS OF OTIT WITH INTEREST IN JAPANESE

What is an OTIT organization?

OTIT Abbreviation for the English name is: Organization for Technical Intern Training. Translated into Vietnamese as: International Technical Internship Association.

OTIT was established on 1/11/2017, is a government-affiliated organization with clearly defined legal rights. This organization has the main function of supporting technical intern trainees, inspecting and accepting registration units, approving technical intern training plans, managing the activities of management organizations and implementation organization.


Is OTIT the same as JITCO?

In terms of operational purposes, the roles of OTIT and JITCO are both to support Japanese technical interns. So why replace JITCO with OTIT?

Starting from November 1, 2017, the Japanese government officially enacted the technical intern trainee law. Once there are government laws, there needs to be a legal organization with the power to enforce the regulations.

Meanwhile, JITCO is just a non-governmental public utility organization, with no legal power to sanction the receiving companies and unions when they violate labor contracts with interns. Therefore, OTIT organization was established and replaced JITCO from November 1, 2017.

What is the role of the OTIT?

Basically, the OTIT organization still has the same role as the old JITCO organization, which is to protect the interests of foreign trainees and workers working in Japan.

Why do interns in Japan need to know well about OTIT?

However, the OTIT organization also has some powers that are far superior to the old JITCO:

  • Full authority to inspect and review unions and businesses for their ability to accept new interns
  • Has the right to prohibit or restrict the recruitment of interns to unions or enterprises that have committed violations. OTIT fully reserves the right to remove that union from the list of recipients if the union has an excess of violations.
  • Have the right to petition for the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam to make decisions to withdraw the licenses of sending companies with many violations.
  • Responsible for supporting, advising and helping interns related to legal issues in Japan.
  • Has the right to reclaim basic benefits for the intern such as salary, other benefits when the receiving company does not pay or improperly pays the intern according to Japanese labor law.

Understanding OTIT will help you avoid some disadvantages when working in Japan. OTIT will support you with the following issues while you work in Japan:

  • Wages stolen
  • Being physically hurt, emotionally insulted, etc.
  • Being fired by a union due to a work accident or not being paid workers compensation benefits
  • Not being informed accurately about working conditions, salary bonuses or holidays in the contract, etc.
